Episode 073 - Permission to rest
I know that you know that you don’t need a permission slip to rest.
But there’s also a chance you might feel like you need one right now.
Rest is fundamental to our wellbeing.
There’s just no way around it. I would also venture a guess and say that it’s the least appreciated and least encouraged aspect of self-care on the planet.
Because the idea of rest runs counterproductive to a capitalistic society’s view of productivity. If you aren’t doing, what value do you have?
And so what’s happened is that in the health, wellness and coaching spaces, rest has become yet another productivity hack. Yuck.
Now, resting in order to be more productive is genuinely effective, but that’s not why we’re here today and it’s certainly not why you are here listening to this podcast. Because you know that I’m not about this kind of vibe.
We’re here to talk about rest as a fundamental part of self care. Not so that you can go do, be, have to achieve more, but so that you can fill your cup, show up fully for yourself and love the hell out of yourself.
In this episode, I break down the idea of rest as a productivity hack and share why | believe this is a flawed idea. I also talk about why rest is an integral part of our existence, rest as a form of joy and share some of my personal recommendations for rest. I also cover the dangers of ‘manifesting a reason to relax’ which often presents itself in the form of illness.
